המשך מאתמול של דבריו של השל ב"נביאים" על חבקוק:

The Voice  does not explain why God should rouse the terrible Chaldeans to march through the breadth of the earth. On the contrary, the message represents another assault upon Habakkuk's  understanding, adding mystery to amazement. While God's design is veiled in an enigma, it is the prophet who volunteers an explanation. The nations are guilty; punishment must follow the guilt. The Chaldeans are the instrument of God's justice.

O Lord, Thou hast ordained them as judgment;

And Thou. O Rock, hast established them for chastisement.

תרגום:

קול ה' אינו מסביר מדוע הקב"ה מעורר את הכשדיים האיומים לצעוד לאורכה ולרחבה של הארץ.  ההיפך הוא הנכון, המסר של הקב"ה מהווה התקפה נוספת על הבנתו של חבקוק, שמוסיפה מסתורין להשתוממות. כאשר תוכניתו של הקב"ה מוסתרת באופן אניגמטית, הנביא הוא זה אשר מציע הסבר. העמים אשמים; עונש חייב לבוא בעקבות האשמה. הכשדיים הם האמצעי לעשיית הצדק האלוקי.

ה' לְמִשְׁפָּט שַׂמְתּוֹ;

וְצוּר לְהוֹכִיחַ יְסַדְתּוֹ.
